Dendro ?

I didn't think that Dendros were non-photosynthetic? I mean everything that everyone has ever told me about the difference between Dendros and Sun Corals is that Dendros stay open all day and don't need to be hidden from the light. My Dendros are out in the open under a 150w HQI and are doing very well.

Non-photosynthetic only means that they don't get nutrients from the light. Both sun corals and dendros only get the nutrition they need to survive by eating meaty foods, so they are non-photosynthetic since they don't contain any microbes that photosynthesize. Dendros don't -mind- the light and many are more likely to stay open in the day than sun corals, but they don't need it and could do well in a totally dark tank. What they do need is to be fed meaty foods.

Thanks for the info! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything detrimental to my Dendros by having them exposed to the light. I here ya' on the meaty foods thing  .

tubastrea "sun corals" don't need to be shaded either. Mine are open about 80% of the time my lights are on, and out in the open. If you feed them with the lights on, they get used to it.

I wouldn't worry about a 150W bulb and dendros. I probably wouldn't put one at the top of a tank right under a 250W or anything. But, IME moderate lighting does not harm them.
