I currently have the option of purchasing a Dendrophyllia coccinea frag with 11-13 polyps for $250. Do you think that is a good price? Anyone have any info on this coral?

the market right now says that price is a great price. these things in orange county are going for 40-70/polyp. i just got my own colony (20 heads) but not from local. they are actually really beautiful coral. just feed em food. mysis shrimp is my dendros favorites. here's a shot of mine:

I live in ottawa. I wish if was Toronto when i think of Livestock availability. Getting stuff here is hard because we have 2 stores that sell very similar stuff. I have a guy that brings in stuff from importers in Toronto.

Would you say they are fast growers? I am thinking of getting it and fraging it once and a while to sell.

No not fast growers, they all depend on feeding for the most part and even then it may take a while for growth. I have had mine for over a year and have gotten one full size polyp with 4 new babies in the past two weeks and I feed heavily.

Well I got a 1 polyp frag a while back, about a year ago. It was listed as a "Giant Dendro". It stayed as 1 polyp for the longest time, then Blamo...... all of a sudden it went from 1 to 11 polyps! It took about 2 months for the babies to sprout. Here is a pic of it showing some of the new polyps, one of 'em has a mysis in its' tummy! This is an old pic and the babies are now fully grown.

anyone have some articles i can read on these? I would like to know how hard they are to care for. How often to feed? What i should feed?

Anything meaty, frozen brine shrimp, mysis, and I've even fed frozen cyclopeeze. I feed them just about every day whenever I feed the fish. I like these better than sun corals because the polyps are usually open during the day and also at night.
