Greetings everyone!
I'm a new reefer located in the Eastern Europe, started off with freshwater aquariums for about a year now and decided it is time to try the saltwater after becoming comfortable with water chemistry and aquarium keeping in general.
Before jumping in without knowing much I did read enough to keep myself away from beginner mistakes. Don't know exactly if I managed that well since algae are still present in the third month since I started this tank.
I went sumpless with this setup as I was scared of setting up a sump and also because I lack space underneath the tank. Now I'm beginning to reconsider that decision after reading about relocated sumps.
The setup is composed of:
- Tank 43X38X38 (those are centimeters not inches)
- Hang-on Sera PS130 skimmer
- UV 9W (not installed but available if needed)
- Tetra EX1200 canister filter
- Wavemaker AquaMedic NanoProp 5000
- Refractometer unfortunately it doesn't have temperature compensation.
- Red Sea Coral Pro Salt
- JBL 120 RO unit with two supplemental home-made sediment and micron pre-filters.
- An LED lamp composed of 4X10W LED units 2X6.500K and 2XRoyal blue
- Filter media: Eheim SubstratPro, Zeolith, GroTech active carbon and PhosEX, some in-tank Caulerpa macroalgae.
Tank was started with 4Kg of LR, no LS though. After the first month an additional 2-3Kg of LR were added.
I do have some livestock that hitchhiked on the LR. Didn't cured it or anything, some Aiptasia as well which I'm hunting after reading many reports about it. Unfortunately the only pet-shop close to me is infested with them.
With the coming of the second month I started to buy corals. Don't know all of them by name but getting there.
I do have a rock with Christmas Tree worms, another with dust feather ones, a host of little inverts that crawl on the rocks and some of them dug tunnels in the sand. I think I have scuds or something that looks like them as I saw an empty shell from molting. Two Nassarius snails, couple of shells and some sponges.
I'll let the pictures talk for the rest of my introduction:
