I don’t plan on retiring down here…

The family is doing well.

Do you go to the MASC meetings?

I try to get up to Denver every summer and it would be cool to see club the old-timers.

I used to trade lots fish (including Discus and Angels) with Ron years ago. (I actually remember going to the Bonnie Brae store (Before the fire) back to the late 1960’s.

I vaguely remember when Ron’s parents ran the store. (But my memory could be fooling me on that recollection)

I haven't seen Ron in the new store for quite a while, but could just have missed him. Thought it was his daughter that was running the store now.

I used to frequent the Bonnie Brae store back in the early 80s, prior to the first fire. After the third fire in the building, they called it quits at that location. I fondly recall the canopy over the store entrance... and the discus tanks stuck back in the corner.

In addition to Todd's, count in Les and Jim at Dolphin Tropicals, Bev, Mike, Keith and others at Tropic Seas, and Al at Neptune's realm, I had lots of good info getting started in this addiction. Tropic Seas was the very first store in Denver that I set foot in back in the mid 70s. I couldn't afford saltwater back then as those fish sold for several dollars!!

Yup, knew and did business with all those that you mentioned.

I also worked at New Englewood Pets in the Old Cinderella City Mall as an after high school job. That was my 1st experience at “running” salt water tanks. (That was before reef tanks) Under gravel (in this case crushed coral) was the usual filtration method.

I did a lot of business with South Broadway Tropical, before and after the move from their Littleton address.

I also use to go the Pet City in Cinderella City.

Do you remember Tropic Seas had that large moray eel in thier front display tank. They were first store that I had seen a wetdry filter at. Me and my friends made some duplicates ( well almost)

Funny, I used to work for Jerry part time at his original store, down near the Trading Post hardware store on South Broadway. Helped him move to the Broadway & Dartmouth location, he's now in yet a different location. He used to have one of the best salt water selections in Denver.

I also hung out at Arapahoe Reef (Jann's store) and Aquaria (Eric's store). I spent so much time there in my 20s that they paid me for talking to customers. Eventually, I bought a share in Aquaria.

I remember Pet City at Cinderella City. I tended to get stuff from Pet City on 6th & Peoria in Aurora. They were bringing in Red Sea fish regularly.

Do you remember Little Joe at Aquarium World, Peoria south of I-70 or Mark Sherman's first store, Angel Aquarium???

So many stores.... so few long term successes.

No, I am afraid that I don’t.

I grew up in south Denver (2500 S Pennsylvania St.) and did not get “up North” much. I think I was in Sherman tank place maybe once.

The salt water store that I “lived in” was Rock Mountain Reef on Arapahoe Road. The very 1st RMRC meetings were held in that store when it had moved to the South side of Arapahoe road. I helped start RMRC in a Burger King off Arapahoe & Parker Road.

Fish/reef stores are a hard thing to make go long term. I actually looked at the books of a few of them that I was contemplating buying.

Maybe when I retire and move back to Denver, I might take another pass at that idea.

one store not mentioned in this thread yet is Reef n Pond on Santa Fe. These guys have a great selection of fish and have been really good to me since I've moved to denver. they're always willing to spend time with you, learn about your tank and be open and honest about which fish or corals would be a smart purchase.

They always have a great selection of livestock ( corals, fish, Live Rock, crabs, & snails ) and they are always very helpful if you have questions.

Well, I have to say I stand corrected on the recommendation of South Broadway tropicals. I told a couple of my friends about it, who are BRAND NEW to the hobby. It is really close to where they work, so I figured they should at least check it out.

They said it was hands down the worst shopping experience they had ever had at any store, period!! They were treated like juveniles and made to feel like complete garbage. It was the girl that works there that always wears the bandana on her head. She yelled at my friends wife and almost made her cry in the store, because when she told her she had 2 fish, three crabs and 3 snails in a 24 Gal Nano cube, the lady at the store told her that "the tank is grossly over stocked and she was going to kill the fish, and shouldn't be running one if she doesn't know what she is doing".

I felt so bad for sending them in there I went to Keys Island and bought them a fish.

I also have to say Reef and Pond usually has a pretty descent selection, sometimes a little overpriced. I don't go in there very often though, so don't know what its like lately.

All the stores i went too all say they get the black onyx true percs like the pic i posted but none had them. Even when i was in Cali i rarely saw them at LFS.

DD had a beautiful pair last night but i just couldn't swing the $179.99 price tag right now.

If anyone sees one of these or a Midas blenny please let me know.

I was in the neighborhood today and decided to kill some time by stopping into S. Broadway. Same old store. A dead fish(Banana Wrasse), poor selection of dry goods etc. I personally would never buy livestock from them.
