Depth of sand for Refugium

Ok guys Vince and I made our refugiums Tuesday night. Mine is now completely cured and ready to go. Should I use cheto or make a deep sand bed or maybe both? I know that remote deep sand beds are in but I have no room for one right now. If a deep sand bed will work how deep should the sand bed be to be effective?

I would go with around 4 - 6 inches. I am not an expert with DSBs but that seems like a good number to me...
