I have been reading that the Derasa sand prefers a rock under it dug in the sand. Is this true? If so, how deep should the rock be under the clam? Right below, with very little sand, or enough sand like an inch?
clams like to feel secure. if you put it about a 1/2 inch to an inch under the sand that should be fine. if your sand bed isn't that deep it may just attach itself to the bottom of the tank. if so, it may be really hard to move it if that becomes nessasary in the future. hope that helps a bit.
I've put shells under the sand under my clams, and they love it. Just like deepbelow said, without it, they can attach to the bottom of your tank, and that could be a pain if you need to move them for some reason. I've found that instead of a rock, a half of a scallop or clam shell works well under them, creating kind of a bowl.
I am running 260w of PC lighting plus an additional 20w NO bulb.
I was thinking...if I could continue with starting the morning for 30-60 minutes just the 20w NO bulb....after that Actinics come on for an hour, and after that all 260w plus the 20w NO bulb come on for 12 hours. Is it good to simulate the early morning as I am trying to for the clam. I know my tank likes it. Atleast I think.
