My derasa clam has not been opening for the last week or so. I've had the clam for over 4 years and it seemed to be doing well until I added a yellow-eye tang to the tank. Now the clam won't open up anymore. I don't know that the tang is the cause, but it's the only change I am aware of.
I've never seen the tang pick at the clam's mantle, but now that the clam stays closed most of the time, I occasionally see it pick at the outside of the shell. The clam is about 7" across, and only opens up about 1". It stays tightly closed most of the time.
Has anyone else seen a tang bother a clam so that it won't open up? I've had several tangs before and none of them have bothered the clam before. Any other ideas on what the problem may be?
Parameters are :
Ca - 400ppm
Mg - 1400ppm
dkh - 8.5
pH - 8.2
NO3 - 5ppm
Temp - 79deg
Other fish in the tank are six-line wrasse, royal gramma, and clownfish (all long time residents).
Thanks!
