Derasa?

I got this clam from a fellow reefer at our swap this weekend, and I thought it was a Derasa, but its colorations and several features dont match up. it is aobut 6" or so and quite heavy. I also got a pair of maroons that have found refuge under the mantle between teh shell and glass. so far they have not made it mad. I also noticed what looked like a string coming out the outshute. it did retract some time later though...

i would guess squamosa or maxima with those scutes on the shell.

I was beginning to think that. I was under the impression that Derasa's have smooth shells. I havce also never seen any in this coloration...

mine does. on the other hand, my squami has a shell just like the clam you pictured.

...yeah..if I had to guess with my limited experience, I would say it is an oddly colored squamosa

yeah its a squa without the common squa pattern though. I have some clams that are hosting anemone fish, the clams got used to it afterwhile and it hasnt been a problem. Its not like the clam will die because its ****ed off having a clown swimming around or on it all the time right?

Well so far they seem to play in the shutes on the sides. only during meal time do they really aggravate it. it is fully extended and not showing any signs of gaping or stress....

I vote squamosa. Nice clam. I did not see it at the swap. I would have gave you some competition for it if I have. HEHE

Giovanni....It was a pre swap deal. got it from Greystreet who had those 4 tanks in the back corner by Gflat. I liked the ones you had for sale.. very nice beauties! just dont have the light to keep them...

It was a great swap. Next year I will bring more and try to keep the price down like this year.
