Dersa bleach spot question

A year ago i picked up a 6" dersa from a fellow reefer. At the time that i picked him up, he had a 1"X"1/2 bleach spot around his exit valve. I figured that over time this would go away. A year later, i am wondering what i can do to fix this problem. It is under 260W PC's with 10ks and actnics. water params are fine cal at 400. any quick fixes to this or is it something that he will always have?

I alway like to take in corals/inverts that are not doing so well in hopes of seeing it through. I figure most of the time they are better off with me than some other reefers.

What is your alk, and what is the salinity and how is it measured please?

The lighting is on the low side...he might heal up under a MH bulb.

Salinity is 1.022-1.025 and it is tested with a hydrometer.

I don't check the Alk because i don't have a kit. But i buffer with baking soda weekly.

I have heard that MH's could help. would it help to reduce the depth that the clam sits?

There's your problem. Both those are bad. Salinity should never swing that much, and ALK is crucial to measure, especially when you have a clam.

Don't let your salinity move more than one point either way there, and get a Salifert alk test ASAP...your clam will thank you.
