im using my current 55g as a sump, and this stand will be for a 120g im getting

my 55 is 21in tall, and im setting up this stand to be 36 tall....

when the sump is in the stand, there will be about 9in of clearance between the top of the sump and the bottom of the 2x4 frame.

do you guys think that is enough? or should i add some height to the stand

or should i just get a shorter sump?

I think it would be enough but you will have difficulty getting your arm to the bottom of the sump if you ever need to. I have my stands at 49" and they are perfect for viewing standing up. Are you going to be looking at yours from a couch or while standing? It may be worth it to go a few more inches.

If you want to get really creative you could mock up a small section of what it would be like with cardboard and tape then try to insert a pump and hook some plumbing to it or reach to the back bottom as if you dropped something back there. then adjust it until you feel comfortable.

make sure u have enough room for ur skimmer! i just learned the hard way :D only took 2 hours to fix:(

the tank will be in my room, only viewable from standing and my bed.

49 is a little tall for me, im only 5'4 lol

my skimmer is 24in tall and will be sitting in the sump.

so i should just make my stand taller?using a 55 is worth it?

maybe make the stand 40in tall? that would make it about 34in on the inside. 13in clearance

the sump will have 2 overflows feeding it.

anybody know off the top of their head how far the holes are drilled from the back of the glass? i need to figure out if the framing will be in the way of the holes i need to drill in the sheet of plywood im going to put across the stand.

this is what im doing

but im ganna skim on the framing a little bit.
i dont think 3 2x4's need to be on the front. and im not putting the 2x4's across the top. i need to make shure the 2x4 along the back wont be in the way(skinny one, not doubled up).
