Despirate please help. Return pump problems

I have a new deep blue 80g frag tank and it's all plumbed/ ready to go accept for one thing. I can't find the right return pump and it's killing me. I have been directed to buy a 5.0 syncra which I did without looking. As soon as I noticed it was rocketing water into the tank I noticed the 1300 gph. SO I went and bought a 3.0 instead YOU GUESSED IT still too much. I can't figure out what to get and I'm sick of spending money. Please help

I apologize if I'm missing something here, but those Sicce are variable flow pumps so you can turn them down if needed. Are you saying that even dialed down they are still too much flow for what you want?

I have an Eheim Compact+ 2000 pump that I use, and it's silent running, and has good flow for what I need. It's also adjustable flow.

Hmmm. I don't know how your tank is laid out, but maybe split the return with Loc-Line once you're in the tank? Sort of soften the flow with a "Y" adapter? Just throwing out possible ideas.

Just wondering did you use front page calculator for head loss and flow? That's what I've been using to help me decide.

No I didn't, but either way it's just confusing to me that I'm gonna have to go with one of the lowest gph models they have

does your return have a ball or gate valve in the plumbing to control flow? my return easily overpowers my tank if i didn't scale it back a little with a valve.

That's the problem. I have been unable to install one because of how small the area is. My sump is 6inches max from my bulkheads. I think I may try to get one in there that's the only option

I have this exact pump on my 80 deep blue frag tank turned all the way up and it's perfect. Nice choice.

took the words right out of my mouth. you will never find a pump that is going to be an absolute match for your needs. add a valve and you'll be happy.

On this tank that eheim is perfect. Pop out the sponge, hook it up, and great flow in the tank. I guess I got lucky. It's the only pump I tried.
