destructive pom pom?

i have two pom pom crabs and one of them ripped a piece of my frogspawn off. I thought these guys are reef safe. has anyone else had this problem in their reef with pom poms?

that is unusual. i have 2 also and they're well behaved so far. the most i ever heard was one cutting a zoa polyp off to replace his anemone. is he at least using that piece of frogspawn for anything?

I'm hitchhiking on this thread. I have one too and I have assumed it has been well behaved. But I have been having problems with an unhealthy anemone and I have just recently been hearing about pom pom crabs being a nuisance.

is a pom pom crab the same as a porcelin crab (Anemone crab) ? if so i have one that harrasses my Rose Anemone by hugging it to the point of irritation...

the pom pom is different than the porcelain crab. imo, the porcelain is truly the most peaceful and safest crab for a reef. i haven't even seen my porcelain use its claws, just it's netting basket thingies...pretty cool to watch.

He just needed something to replace the anemones he lost, probably. He didn't want to destroy the coral, was just borrowing a piece.

I agree with Molly. He was probably just using them as replacement anemones.
