Determining amount of rock/sand/inhabitants?

Hey all, just a quick question..

I'm getting a custom tank built for me out of 1/2" acrylic.. Its dimensions are 24"x24"x18"..

There will only be 23x23x 16-17 actually filled with water, which makes quite a bit of difference in how many gallons the tank is..

By the tanks dimensions it's a 45 gallon, but given the amount that will actually fill the tank it will only be about 37 gallons which is quite a difference..

So which number am I going by when it comes time to put stuff in it? Would it make more sense to put in 70 pounds of live rock or 55? 45 pounds of sand or 37?

Same thing goes for the inhabitants of the tank..

Thanks!

Since all rock is different I don't think anybody can answer that question for you.

But here is something to think about: Where are you getting your rock from? If ordering from an online dealer many ship box lots cheaper than by the pound. The weight/box size varies based on type of rock and/or dealer sometimes.

I haven't made a concrete decision yet on where I'll be getting the rock from.. I'm thinking maybe from liveaquaria? but again I'm not 100% sure gotta look around some more before making a decision.

Got my from oceanproaquatics.com. They sell alot of live rock (various types of Walt Smith rock) and will ship air freight to you (usually cheaper than UPS/Fedex).
