Determining sex of Coral Banded Shrimp?

I read many places that you can keep a mated pair of Coral Banded Shrimp. I currently have one in my tank, and would like to get him/her a mate. How do I determine what sex I currently have? They all look alike to me.

Not sure how to tell, but I caught two on the same rock. The larger of the two now has eggs. I think it might be hard to find a mate. They seem to be fairly violet creatures from my limited experience.

Size shows sex - bigger is female. Trying to get them to pair up on your own is a once in a blue moon event. More often than not, the larger one will hunt down and eat the smaller one.

You're best bet is to get hold of an already established mated pair.

Check for blue dots at the base of the largest pair of claws. If they are there its a girl, if not its a boy. Size is also a determining feature, but would be less sure .

If you're going to quote from another website it's only polite to mention the original poster or source. Even with those slight changes in wording it's pretty obvious where your info came from.

My bad, wasn't trying to steal anyone's thunder, just trying to help with the question.

I thought linking to other sites was against the UA but you're right, I should have gave some credit to the original author. Next time I will surely give credit where it is due.

Sorry again.

I figured it was just an oversight. :)

Linking under your signature is a no-no. I couldn't even link to my museum website. But links in a post are either okay or ignored by the mods since there are so many links posted all the time. Giving credit is not just fair, it's setting a precedent so when others quote your comments you get credit too.

Coral banded shrimp. I resently purchased on but sadly don't have a camera. Although you could try a google image search.
