Devil's Hand Leather help!

Almost 2 months ago my leather started getting large white patches that looked like tears in its skin. Stayed that way a few weeks, polyps still came out every day. Then little by little the tears grew, fingers started dangling. The dangling fingers have no polyps and look dead. Polyps still come out on the rest of the leather but it just looks ugly and has been this way with hanging fingers several weeks. He used to look beautiful. Hasn't been moved.
220 G tank. Nitrates between 0 and 5. Phosphates .05. Weekly water changes. Calc 450. Mag 1400. Leather always been front center, mod flow.

A lot of times Leathers will pop off parts of themselves as a sort of propagation. Some grow lobes around their bases and then detach them, some just drop parts of themselves, others can completely split for no reason.

I wouldn't worry about him, just take the other and rubber band it to a small rock, I am almost 100% certain that it will survive and make another.

I've read that about leathers. And at first that's what I thought. But is it normal for this to take place over a period of a couple months? That's how long this has been going on beginning with the large white patches to this. The fingers have been dangling for several weeks now like they refuse to fall off. Should I pull them off? I hate having my leather in the front center of my tank looking so awful all the time.

I agree that sounds like it's dropping babies. My toadstool does this and will end up with hanging/dangling pieces. It actually has piece that's been hanging for almost a month now. You can go frag them off if you want... I'd suggest taking it of water first if you do that route.

Yes it's dropping "babies" but my guess is that your water is too clean (according to what you stated) IMO and IME that is why this is happening.
