Hay every one I have had a devils hand leather in my tank for about three weeks now and it still hasnt opend or expanded! It did shed its outer skin once though. and has been moved twice in my tank already, and it is still pretty leathery so it is alive! So basicaly if anyone has any thoughts or ideas would be appriciated! Thanks!

Leather corals seem to like more flow than other types of corals. It keeps the detritus from settling on it. Give it strong indirect flow and it should open. Also sometimes they take awhile to get accustomed to a new tank.

thanks it seems to be in good flow but i will watch it for a while longer and hope it acclimates ! thanks

My flower leather coral looked like crap for the first month after I acquired it. It shriveled up into a grayish lump and didn't do much after that for almost a year. Two months ago it started opening fully. Now it's spreading nicely to the point where I've had to cut several frags off to keep it contained. My torch, two open brains, frogspawn, pulsing xenia, zoanthids, palythoas, GSP and ricordea yuma corals all thrived immediately after they were introduced, but the leather coral was slow to establish itself. Now the only thing I can't seem to keep alive is regular mushrooms. They slowly shrink over time and eventually melt away.

Give your leather time and it'll probably be okay. I'm sure you'll eventually find one type of coral that is impossible to keep alive in your system. Try not to be too discouraged when that happens.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. just as u said you just never know what will survive and what wont ! I will give it time to run its course and hopfully sometime soon it will openup. All of my other corals (soft,Lps, Brain, mushrooms, heck even my snails and crabs hardly die off)! Maby some day there will be a way to keep anything alive no matter what the sircomstances are. Thanks again!
