Could DI Resin be used as a filter media like carbon or purgen? would it remove to much of the good stuff?

no way . salt water would destroy it . besides have you ever tested the tds of salt water, its off the scale

DI resins will just bind the salt out of salt water, and would not be useful. But you could make pure fresh water if you used enough.

I think you can use an ani resin column charged with cl ions to remove nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate negative ions from sea water.

I do not believe that works. None have been demonstrated to be effective in seawater since they have to compete with massive amounts of chloride and sulfate.
