I have no idea what this is, but I'm thinking that it's a localized fungal or bacterial infection, but don't know for sure, and I'm okay with identifying most parasitic diseases. Once you know what it is, how do I go about treating it? I've been feeding Thera+ from New Life Spectrum as well as nori and PE Mysis. He's still eating, and looks healthy otherwise, but this infection is getting worse.
Background: I added this trigger fish a few months ago. A week or two after I added him, my larger of the two Neon Dottybacks died, showing what looked to me like a white infection under his scales on one side of his body. He was in death throwes in the corner of my tank for a few hours before slipping under a rock and sitting still, then disappearing the next time I looked in that crevice. This trigger has shown what looked like standard ich, so I kept feeding and didn't worry about it, because my tank has had ich previously, and the fish all survived through it, and I know to start worrying when the fish stop eating. This thing isn't ich to my limited knowledge, but whatever it is, ignoring it isn't working, as the fish is presenting worse than ever before. He's still active and eating and a happy little trigger, but I'd like to make sure and keep him that way with minimal disruption his life, my tank, and the lives of my other fishes. You'll see that the infection is primarly on his back side (it looked like just a fish bite or something 2 days ago, now it's spreading), and on his face, there were maybe a few small dots that looked like ich, but now it looks like full blown fishherpes
.
So, thoughts? Here are the images, I hope they help. These are the best I could get on speed mode on my SLR.
Me and my fishy friends thank you!
