diamond goby/tang QT questions

I have several fish in a 29g QT tank for ich tx. It is a new set up for tx only, has a hang on filter (bio wheel with spong from my established tank in it-no carbon),bare bottom, heater/powerhead,PVC for hiding.Included is a good size diamond goby. This may sound like a dumb question but since the goby is a sand sifter do I need to keep something (sand) in the bottom of the QT for him for food (he also eats flake, FZ brine). I realize you should keep no porous materiel in a QT, havn't found much info on this topic anywhere yet (Gobies). Also is it safe to tx the Goby with copper? Will TX fof 8 weeks to be safe, first with copper, then WC's and then hypo (separately and possibly hypo first). What do you think? Thanks,
BB

I think if your fish doesn't die from the disease the regime of treatments should do the trick -- that is -- kill the fish.

I would ease up. A proper copper treatment of 14 days followed by a 4 week observation is all you need to do.

Regarding the goby. Silica sand is not a crime. It doesn't bind with copper. But, a goby isn't absolutely married to sand. Still it would make it less stressed to have sand.

These sort of questions are briefly addressed in this article:

Porosity isn't the issue with a copper treatment. It's chemical reaction that is the concern. Most carbonate materials will react with the copper and take it out of solution.

Follow your copper medication instructions; maintain water quality; test for copper using a test kit recommended by the copper medication manufacturer to keep it in the effective concentration range.
