diamond goby

I know the diamond goby is common for burrowing in the sand but is it comon to not see them at all. I justified bought one today and i know its probly guna take a little while for it to acclimate but im just curious.

It took mine two weeks before he felt comfortable enough to come out into the open. If you just put him in there today, give him a week to get accustomed to the new tank.

if you don't have a lid on the tank he is probably laying behind the tank, they are jumpers and will jump out

I've added two, one to each of my tanks. Both started moving sand within minutes of being introduced. Whats funny is they move mountains of sand for the first 3 months because that is what they are trained to do. In the home aquarium they quickly learn to eat food from the water at feeding time. They still burrow but not as much.

I purchased one from a fellow reefer. It took maybe 5 months for him to get comfortable enough to get out of his burrow. He still gets intimidated by my tangs as they swim by, but has always come out at feeding time.

I do have a lid that leaves maybe a 2 inch gap of water showin but i dont think itll b an issue...i figured it would take a little time just wonderin wat other people experienced

+++1,2,3 on them being jumpers. just my opinion, but i believe they can find that small opening very easily, especially at night when the surface silhouette is more defined. at the lfs i used to work in we had more fish jump out of tanks with small openings than we did with the ones that only had half of a glass lid. maybe just luck, but it held true for years there.

they do sometimes bury completely, but this is usually when being chased by a net or collection box. i have had a couple of pairs over the past decade and some are out in the open right away and some stay hidden for a while... all in the individual. also, they can repeat this behavior when moving or upgrading aquariums. just be patient and feed them plenty of meaty foods.

Mine goes in his burrow at night to sleep and will typically go there if I'm working in the tank and get to close to him. Other than that. He's out all day filtering sand, or making a larger pile around his home. Pretty entertaining fish.

I had mine jump out of a 1x1 opening about a week after I got him

my 3 year old found it on the floor and brought it to show mommy first thing in the morning.
