diamond goby

Ok this maybe a fluke but I bought a 4" diamond goby last week when doing my rounds. Anyhow I always wanted one to keep the top layer of live sand looking somewhat clean. So after about an hour in the tank he found his spot where i thought would be it. So he dug s hole and made a mess....sand everywhere. I stayed cool.......little while later he packed up and moves again again.....digging digging again I think he has found his home after a week. one think I can tell you about this godie he loves to dig big holes and lay in them and lookout

Now here is my question the gobie is starting to stir up quit a bit.
He is getting down into the mess stuff in the sand. Today I went out to feed them and about 50% of the sand bed is green.......even the glass had green tint....is it possibly that the gobie stirred up something?

Its getting harder to look in the tank anymore there's always a sand storm.

Will it ever claim down.....if not I cant see me trying to catch this fish
Brian :(

LOL be patient- I have a couple since my tank originated and they do an excellent job at cleaning your bottom. He will slow down.

my goby did that for about a 2 week and then my sand was a white as i have ever seen . i like the holes he makes around the rocks it give the tank a more reef look with shape in the sand

it must be releasing excess nutrients from deep in the sand bed.
Hey Jess.......that's what I was thinking.....because I never had any problem with green sand or cayno.........He get along great with all the other fish and does do a good job of cleaning sand he has did half the tank.....but looks a little scaried going to the otherside

Gasman...how many do you have?
How many would you recommend at the most in
a 65g tank? Would 2 be ok?

Hey Mel i have two and for a 65 one is more than enuff. they dig and by digging if your rockwork is not secure they may casue some issues. I have two and they do go at it from time to time. SO each has a burrow at each side of the tank.

i just got one yesterday and right now hes kickin up alot of sand. I know sooner or later hes gonna calm down and stay settled. He picked the exact spot i wanted him, under the small rock that has sand all around. he dug a tunnel going from one side to the other! hes awesome

I love my Diamond Goby. He keeps the sand in my 55 nice and clean. I should get another for my 90, but I don't want to offend my slacker Bullet Goby. Perhaps if the Bullet Goby should meet with an unfortunate "accident"... :uzi:
