diamond goby

anyone have diamond goby in their tank? i just got mine last thursday and that guys been doing nothing but turning my tank into a sand storm, digging up sink holes (one of my rock is falling into the whole) and spitting sand on my yuma ricordea. when i saw him in the LFS, i didnt see him digging up sand. is this normal? would he eventually stop once he sifted all the sand in my tank, or my filter floss catches all the debris flying around?

They sift constantly! They also should be in the Olympics competing in the High Jump. I hope you have glass over your tank because they tend to jump out if not. They keep the substrate nice and clean but some people dont like the side effects

Yes I have 2 of them had 3 but they paired and knocked off the 3rd one. Also have a golden head goby There are days when I come home from work it looks a bit milky in the tank but every body seems no worse for wear and the sand looks really good. I look at it this way with all the sand being moved around it is feeding the coral and increasing my calcium content in the water.

Thanks, i have some egg crate left over i could put over. had a lexan lid for my tank and i think it trapped too much gas.

i guess ill wait a few weeks and see how he do. if my water is still constantly a sand storm, then i guess ill have to trade for something else.

One thing I would recommend for the rock is to clear off an area of sand if possible. Then place eggcrate down on the glass and recover with a layer of sand hiding it. Put the rock so it is actually touching the eggcrate, not resting on the sand. No matter how hard they try (and mine sure tries) it will not cause dig out the eggcrate with rock on it. Keeps my rocks stable. I saw the thread mentioning it in DIY at some point and decided to try it myself. So far so good.

thats a good idea, but i would have to take all the rocks and sand out..and rescape.

I got mine for the purpose of sifting the sand...regret it. Sand is always in the water column.

Yes, it is pretty much useless if you cannot readily move things around. I did not know if it would be an option for you. I did not find it until after I put sand, rock, and the goby in my 200. It was a pain to get each section cleared off and the eggcrate down, but it seems to have been worth it.
