Hi everyone...still fairly new to this hobby and have a question.
First off I have a 125g reef tank that has been up and running since May of this year. All levels are good. 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, 20 nitrates (trying to get that down) Everything else within normal limits.
We bought a Diamond Watchman Goby about a week ago and drip acclimated for 2 hours. When we released him into the tank, he went directly under a rock and buried himself in the sand. Have not seen him since and it has been 6 days.
So this morning my husband moved the rocks around trying to find him and underneath a rock I saw a large piece of "goo". Don't know what else to call it. It was obviously a decaying piece of "something" and when my husband netted it and brought it out of the water, WHEW!! Smelt just like a dead turbo snail. Also, when he picked up the large rock that the goby went under, an empty turbo snail fell to the sand.
So, my concern is do you think that big glob of goo was my fish?? or a dead turbo snail?
Would a dead fish turn into goo if buried in the sand under a rock?
This is really puzzling us. I would appreciate any info.
