Well i have a 25 gallon ecipse tank that is starting to seperate at the corners. So i decided to get a 29 gallon because i like the idea of a long tank rather than a tall tank. Here is a list of the stuff that will be in my 29 gallon tank.

~equitment
2 900 power heads
refractometer
CSS65
aqua clear filter(for carbon)
heater
digital thermometer
salfait test kit
150w MH 2 65 acents 1w moon light=280

~Live filterazation
20# live rock (will be adding more)
20# live sand

~Fish
2 true percula clowns
black clown goby
Yabsha Goby
Flame angel(if ever possible but dont think so, and it would be the last fish)

~Inverts
RBTA
Clam
6 blue leg hermit crabs
2 scarlet hermit crabs
6 astrea snails
6 nassarius Snails
2 cerith snails
1 emerald crab
Candy pistol shrimp
Cleaner shrimp

How does that all sound should i add or take out anything? Also I will be trying to make a refrigum. Here is an image of it.
sump.jpg

the purple thing is the filter sock
the red thing is the hoseing
the brown thing is live rock
the green thing is plants
the gray thing is the return pump

The return pump will be a mag 5. the overflow box will have a 3/4 bulkhead. Oh and the baffles will be 1" apart. This will be a 1o gallon tank. How does that all sound.

Also i think that i will start off with new water and new sand in my new tank. Sence the old tank has nitrate issues.

Right now the tank is still up because it is not leaking yet. When i move the stuff i will put it all in 5 gallon buckets i will mix the salt and put it in the tank, then will add the live rock and sand. then wait for it to cycle. Sence all that is in my tank is some snails and hermits i will be returning them to the store incase the tank cycles.I do have two clowns but they will be in QT for at least 6 more weeks. Altough do you think it is a bad idea to use new water. Im having a nitrate problem so i thought that new water would be better.

Also for lighting i plan on getting what i said at the top but my tnak will be 30" and the light only comes in 24" or 36" which size do i get.
thanks for any advice Puffer21

for the light you can get the 24" it will work fine (if your thinking of getting the same light i have that you were planning before)

are you planning on putting the CSS65 in or on the refugium?

personally, if it were me, i'd use a 15 tall for your sump/ fuge. split the drain line and have the refuge at one end, the skimmer on the other end, and have them both flow into the middle to the return pump. but like i said, that's what i would do.

yeah that light will work for anemones, clams and corals. I have a clam and a few corals and they are fine. I want to get an anemone too, but i want to wait untill my take is a little more stable.

if you use a 14K bulb, you wont need actinics, actinics supply no photosynthetic aid, or energy. it is mainkly for looks. im puttign a hang on tank aqualight advacned 150 DE 14K on my 29 or soem sps and a derasa, i might use my current 65 watt for supp to make day andf night, so it wont go fro mnight to midday right away, but mainly for looks, so i can see my flourescent corals glow better

phenom5- the Css65 will be going on the tank. Since the refugium will be added a little after the tank. In the beggining i will be using my Aqua clear filter as the refugium. The reason for this I need to move everything to the new tank and i do not have the stuff right now or the money it will be added a month after the new tank. Also i like your idea but i dont think I can do anything that complacted, adding baffles will be hard enough. That is also why there will only be the refugium under the tank. But thanks for that advice anyways.

Cutiewitbooty- ok thanks

mr pink floyd- Ya the looks is manily the reasons for the acents i guess if i have to spend 200 dollars on lights and then like 30 for moon lights I will pay the more money for acents and the all in one fixure.

true, i haev a PC fixture, wimpy 65 watts, needs bulb soon anyways, so ill get actinic probably, im spending 250 on my light, and my PC has a white moon already in it, so i want to keep it for that too.

if worse comes to worse ill purchase one from the CTARS a used one or save up eventually for a new small lunar fixture thing.

BTW wut grade are you in?
im a freshman

Im a freshmen, although my class are mainly with sophomes. I have another question is 2 900 power heads enough flow for everything i want. Also with the lighting i want could i ever get SPS. I do know that the clown goby can be know to eat the SPS but i was just wondering.
Thanks for all the help

Are you talking about the maxi-jet 900. Then maybe, then that would be considered a low to medium flow for a 29 gallon tank. Yes, if you had the mh then you could keep SPS in the future but Stick with easy corals and don't worry about the SPS until later.

yea, im goign to keep sps in my 29 with 150, i want monti caps, green lsimer colony and some monti digis, ill move them up high though, some peopel say with the 150 in a 29 it will eb godo anywhere so long as its under the light, others say no more than 12" down, mine would be about 9 inches down from water surface, my temp will be a problem too, its at 80 normally, i will get a fan on too while the halide is on.

whan you say 900 PH do you mean 900 GPH? or MJ 900?

right now i haev 2 175 filters and a 160 PH, im adding a MJ 1200, abotu 290 GPH, then another later, eventually they will both have hydor flos on them.

and i am also addign a CSS65, cut the tube for micro bubbles, im buying used for a month form a kid in the club, so its 65 bucks, great deal, alreasy modded to haev the shorter tube.

what kinds of SPS do you want?

it should be good

ok thanks for the help. yes i did mean 2 900 maxjet powerheads. should i instead get two 1200? Also i have no clue what kind of SPS but i have heard that thoses need the most about of light and i was wondering if what i want had enough light to work.

well, adding it down the road is not a problem, you can use the CSS65 HOB until then. as far as complexity, my description probably makes it sound more complicated then it is. it's really only a matter of expanding a little bit on what you've already got. you'd just be adding one more baffle to the tank, and be adding a ball valve, tee union, and a 90 degree elbow. just giving you something to think about, b/c if your going to have a sump or fuge, you might as well put as much of your equipment down there and out of the display.

If you want you can. Have you thought about the seio pumps yet?

Also i have no clue what kind of SPS but i have heard that thoses need the most about of light and i was wondering if what i want had enough light to work.

and just to add one thing...as far as SPS go, people focus on lighting, and it is important...but i would rank the factors of keeping SPS like this...

1. water quality
2. intense lighting & good flow.

you hear about people keeping SPS under less then ideal lighting, but you don't hear about people keep SPS in less then rock-solid, good water quality.

phenom5- ya i would like to put all the equitment under the tank but i dont know if i can. When i have everything set up i will have to figure it out. Im 15 and my mom doesnt like me using supper glue never mind using silicon. I plan on making it one day when she is not home and just saying i bought it like that:( . Also i won't get any SPS until i have good water but i dont want to buy a MH then a year later find out that there is not enough lighting and have to buy a new one. Also thanks for all the help.

Andrew- what are seio pumps, and what do i need them for. Do you mean a pump that takes the water back from the refruim?

Also i think that i will be getting one 900 and one 1200 is that ok or would that not work. And i will be getting the lighting fixure i want that is 24".

And for another Question about sand i have that live sand in a bag and it is not thin sand is thin sand really that much better. Cause i dont know how but i have pods in my tank and i thought it could be from my sand.

Also i think that i have decided to make all new water and just move my live rock to my new tank and add some more live rock. Since im not really in a hurry and that i dont have any fish in the tank( i do have clowns in QT but they will be there at least 6 more weeks). Then after that i will add my fish. I also dont think i will be getting a big cycle cause i dont even think i got one the first time. but i also wasnt cheacking my levels everyday.

So how does this all sound. I really want to do this right. Since i found out i made so many miskates in the first place and i dont want to make any more although i know i will.
