Hi there!
I am currently experiencing some heavy diatoms in my nano tank.
My tank is a small LPS and SPS mixed nano, 10 gallons.
I have some small biopellets in the rocks (very very few amounts of them) and currently dosing vinegar (0,6 ml) each day.
The thing is, I don't have any green nor red algae, so that is really great!
But have brown (diatoms) algae in some spots of the sand, and honestly, don't know how to get rid of 'em.
What I did on the last 2 water changes was: using a siphon, on those areas or spots, I removed all the detritus trapped in the sand, and the water came like green! Really dirty, after this the sand went white, however the brown algae grew in a matter of hours and now I have more than ever!
Always on the same zones of the aquarium (same spotes in the sand).
Should I keep siphoning my sand on every water change?
Will the siphon leads to more brown algae over time since I might have being removing bacteria from it??
Should I stop siphoning the sand and live it alone for a few months? :worried:
I try by all means to keep clean my tank, do water changes of 25% every week, add 1 biodigest and dose vinegar every day, however I can't get rid of those brown spots in the sand..
