Diatoms in my nano tank

Hi there!

I am currently experiencing some heavy diatoms in my nano tank.
My tank is a small LPS and SPS mixed nano, 10 gallons.
I have some small biopellets in the rocks (very very few amounts of them) and currently dosing vinegar (0,6 ml) each day.

The thing is, I don't have any green nor red algae, so that is really great!
But have brown (diatoms) algae in some spots of the sand, and honestly, don't know how to get rid of 'em.

What I did on the last 2 water changes was: using a siphon, on those areas or spots, I removed all the detritus trapped in the sand, and the water came like green! Really dirty, after this the sand went white, however the brown algae grew in a matter of hours and now I have more than ever!

Always on the same zones of the aquarium (same spotes in the sand).

Should I keep siphoning my sand on every water change?
Will the siphon leads to more brown algae over time since I might have being removing bacteria from it??
Should I stop siphoning the sand and live it alone for a few months? :worried:

I try by all means to keep clean my tank, do water changes of 25% every week, add 1 biodigest and dose vinegar every day, however I can't get rid of those brown spots in the sand.. :(

How old is the tank, what are the params? I had the same prob for the first 6-7 months if my ten it will reach a natural equilibrium the thing with diatoms they are a crucial part of the food chain so as ugly as they are we need them. Good luck an happy reefing!!

if it really is diatoms they feed off silicate. Silicate is usually not something you are constantly adding to your tank. (usually from the sand) Keep cleaning, but once the silicate is gone, the diatoms will be too. If it continues for longer than a month or two, re-id to be sure its diatoms, and if it is, get a silicate test and find the source...

Hi there.
You could try Phos remover product If not already this may help reduce your problem or even cut down on your lighting if possible
