I'd love to help but am only a yearling at this. But if you search 'diatom treatment' or something similar in the search engine then there are times of threads. Without having to start a new one. Good luck
Diatoms will diminish when the bacteria which consumes them has risen to sufficient levels. Patience is all you need, keep your water parameters in check, make you changes frequently with RODI <5 TDS and a good salt.
Once they disappear, they will not reappear unless you add load to fast.
New tank?
If so you don't do anything...
diatoms are just a normal part of the "ugly stages" of a new tank..
They should be expected and tolerated and will pass on their own.
They are typically fueled by excess silicates in a new tank and as they consume those silicates they will just go away as the silicate supply is used up..
If a new tank you should also expect green film/hair algae next and even cyanobacteria..
Just keep up with routine (20% every 2 weeks or so) water changes with good water (RO/DI is best) and the diatoms and other will pass in as little as a week or so to up to a month or more..
Time will let mother nature do her thing. The end product of her housekeeping will conclude in what your tank looks like down the road. You can do a lot of things to manipulate the results. I myself am not that hard working and would rather have nature takes it course. If it get a bit ugly then so be it. If it gets to be too much I will find a critter that will fix the issue. The blooms, blosoms and outbreaks are natural. I let them happen. With luck my coral and fish will bloom and blossom too.
Why do we want to get rid of diatoms? They consume silicates and most tanks have a limited supply. They produce oxygen. We need oxygen in our tanks. Same goes for it sister, algae. blah blah blah.....
Have fun and best results with your new tank.
