Did I break my MP10?

Hello,
So let me start off by saying that I know you shouldn't do this, and I can't believe I did it.

I was installing my new MP10 and when I tried to slide it, the wet side fell off. Without thinking, I tried to stick it back on with it still powered. There was a lot of resistance and some noise. Now the wet side is very loud. Like a rattling. You can only hear it when you put your ear to the glass, but in tank it's loud. Did I break it? I really have no idea if this is just how the pump is naturally because I just got it in tank.

I read some threads on here and I am running it on constant speed to see if it breaks in.

Thanks,

I just re-read my post and just to be clear I don't know if it was this loud right out of the box or not. It's not like it was quiet and then after I did this it started making noise. I didn't get a chance to hear it until after this bonehead move. You can't hear it standing by the tank, only when you put your ear to the glass.

I think many of us have tried to reconnect the wetside with the power still on. As you noticed, it doesn't work :) I'm no expert, but I don't believe this causes any damage to the unit. Yours might need to break in for a bit.

+1 also you can try adjusting the wet side a bit to find the sweet spot. Probably normal what your hearing

Thank goodness. I have waited and saved for one of these. It went on my equipment wish list a year ago!

I have tried to align it better, but with the power on. I'll try again today with shutting it off, moving it, and turning it back on. Thanks.

I've always attached them off, but aligned them while they are on. I move the wetside slightly until I feel the vibration is the least. You'll find the sweet spot that way. Good luck, I hope you enjoy them. They are great pumps.

Yeah. I'm not sure. Maybe I did break it, maybe it's just the sound it makes, but it keeps coming back. It's like a little helicopter noise. Probably wouldn't bother most, but I like a quiet tank as far as internal noise.

Other than that, yeah, I love it. I'm exited to try out the programs. It's already stirring up the crap in my sand bed much better than my Koralia 850's, but it is twice as loud in tank. I wish I would have heard it before so I would know if it is working right or not.

I guess maybe I should ask a more specific question. I’m looking for an answer from Ecotech.

Is it possible I broke it? When I take it out, there is something sliding around inside of the wet side, and the propeller moves around inside the housing. Is it normal to have the helicopter sound? Not a humming, but like a Chop, Chop, Chop sound.

It dose get better for a second if I align it high on the wet side, but it comes back.

You could check for a broken shaft or something. I've never heard of anything sliding around inside as being normal. The wet side is easy to take apart and clean so it should take you a few minutes.
There have been recent threads on the new QD MP10s not being as quiet as people thought and needing a break in period. I'm confident that Ecotech will take care of any issues if that is the case for you.

Mine was pretty loud out of the box. It's been 13 days and is still loud even after break-in. I contacted Ecotech and did some troubleshooting and they are shipping out a new wetside for me. I would contact them and do some troubleshooting but it could just be a bad wetside like myself and some others have seemed to have.

Yeah. There is no way I can have it this loud when my fish go in. It just dosen't seem right. I'm gonna contact them, see if I may have a bad wet side and keep running it in the meantime, but I have a feeling it's coming out of the tank. Thanks.

Success!

I took the wet side apart and put it back together and the rattling is gone. Just to be sure, I have let it run for a few days and yeah, it's gone.

Thanks.

Good to hear. I received my replacement wet side from EcoTech and it fixed my issue. Absolutely quiet now.
