Die zoanthids!

Is there another way to kill zoanthids other than with a syringe and patience?
My tank is becoming overrun with yellow anemone like zoanthids that I actually paid for a few years ago. Ever since I tried scrubbing them off with a toothbrush they have sprouted up all over the place.

interesting. got a picture?

Sundial snails might eat them, and the others you have as well.

You can also try flipping the rocks over and snuffing them out!
Or perhaps frag them and sell them to your local LFS

Would really like to see a picture.

I don't care if the green zoas die as well

In thinking they might be a species of hydroid I found this page:
http://emeralddiving.com/id_hydroids.html
Checkout the Orange Hydroids on this page, do the stocks look similar?

Do you feed your tank brine shrimp?

If they are Hydroids a peppermint shrimp will eat them, maybe :P

aka yellow button polyps. I made the mistake of buying them too and they tried to take over my whole tank. I pulled out the rocks they were on, cut off the whole piece of rock they had covered and tossed it. Not an easy task but it got the job done.

Whether its GSP, Mushrooms, Zenia, etc... Haven't we all done this. In the same boat with some solid blue and metalic green mushrooms. At first I was so proud that they were thriving (ie spreading), now I pluck and toss everyone I can get at, but no winning the battle. Yep and to think I actually bought these. I'm actually thinking of emptying the tank of all it's contents and starting all over. Just can't stomach the loss yet as the rest of the ZOA & Paly colones are well established all over the live rock and look beautiful. Some lessons are learned the hard way.

On a little bit of a side topic now, but also leaned "the hard way" about the value of quarintine tanks and dips. But that's a whole different subject.

Nasty ones, and you have a bad case of them.
If you didn't have any other zoanthids in your tank, (depending on how big the tank is), I'd suggest a Raccoon Butterfly fish.
They are known for liking polyps.
Other than that, I'd say just start kalking them.

There's other button polyps in there, but I don't care about them; I could use the rock space.
What's "kalking" them? Do you mean kalkwasser?

yes, making up some kalkwasser paste and layering some on the polyps with a syringe with a large opening (so it doesn't clog)

i had some hydroids on a rock. I hit them up with Joe's juice then I took the rock out and cooked it at 350 degrees for an hour. It's a cool looking rock that the only reason why I went through so much trouble.

I am so happy that for whatever reason everything people consider pests and over growers I cant seem to keep it alive lol I keep SPS and cant keep GSP xenia or kenya tree alive they just melt away

My tank is about 75% soft corals so I have considered ripping them off and starting all over. Most of the fun is watching it grow.

I've never heard of Joe's Juice so I'll read about it.
As for your baked rock; I can only assume that it's no longer 'live' rock anymore. Did you have to go through the cycling bull**** again?
