Dieing female...

She's dieing and she looks like she's in pain. I was told to put them in a bag and put it in the freezer to slowly slow their heart rate down and put them to sleep... is that the best option? She's lying in the back on the tank on some rocks barely breathing. She just started laying eggs every 10 days about a month or two ago and they seemed very healthy. I don't know their exact age but it's her time to go...

Ugh I originally read it as lying on her back, the whole time limit thing made me skim. Yeah if she's just laying on a rock I'd probably move her to some new, clean water and see how she does. You'll want to test your water parameters, too. It's just the pair of clowns in there?

Ive had clownfish come back from this state before...and lived on to reproduce...and still do.I would reccomend takeing her and placing her in a 5-10 gallon tank with water from your display and with a little bubble filter and keep the water movement calm in the tank till she looks better.I also added smime coat to see if that helpped. It did a bit.

P.S...never place a clownfish in a freezer! Its inhumane and it is over all just stupid.I never did it when my fish were "dieing".I always tried to save them and if I lost them in the prossess...I guess I lost them. Not much I can do about that now can I.

Hope that helps!

I agree with Austin. Just put her in a peaceful place (possibly a refugium if you have one) and minimize stress. Freezer is VERY inhumane.

If you feel compelled to euthanize, run to your local store and get some clove oil.

Again, clowns101 has the best advice!
I was praying yesterday and hoping she would live... sure enough, 30 minutes after the lights went off she bounced back a bit. She's back to normal now. She ate this morning. She's currently helping out the male with the eggs that will hatch tonight. :)

Thank you!I try to help the est I can.

Im glad she doing better.Sometimes when the lights turn off it gives them "secutiry" and they seem to just magicly change. If she is actting kinda normal again,I think she will be OK.But we cant guarantee survival of the fish just yet.Just keep her happy and see how they she does.

Good luck.. hopefully she recovers! A separate tank, a quiet spot with low light (or none) and a bit of stress coat goes a long way. Maybe she just needs a bit of a break from the husband and kids ;P A day at the spa if you will.
