Difference between Anemone and Sexy shrimps

Anemone shrimps tend to be larger. Sexy shrimp do live in anemones, though. Anemone shrimps come in many different species, just being a term for any shrimp that host in anemones, while a sexy shrimp is only one species. As a general rule, sexy shrimp are just a lot smaller, and they also have that stuck-up tail.

Thanks for the reply. They all are peaceful, right?

I have in 120 gal tank

- Tiger Pistol Shrimp
- Cleaner Shrimp x 2
- Golden Coral Banded Shrimp
- Peppermint Shrimps x 5

They leave good with each other.

There are 3 anemones in the tank (Long Tentacle, Rose Bubble and Maxi Mini carpet Anemone) that (I hope) may be hosted by Anemone and Sexy shrimps. Is it fine if I add 2 of each kind?

The coral banded shrimp is a threat to what you currently have let alone the sexy shrimp/anemone shrimp.

As far as ID differences on the two betta nailed it.

Anemone shrimp (glass/venus or spotted/glass/white spotted) are in genus Periclimenes.. both of these stay on the same anemone and crawl around on it.

Sexy shrimp are in genus Thor and have their abdomens facing upward similar to a scorpion's tail and they jump around coral to coral including anemones and are all over the place.. if there is a coral a few inches away they'll jump back and fourth. Very active and in large number add alot of life and movement to the tank. They stick close together, they're best kept in groups.

Fun fact! Sexy shrimp were name after the erotic behavior they make wagging their tails! No joke that's the true legit scientific description of the origin of their name.. rather unpleasant I must say..

Yes, I'm aware of the history of it's name. :)

Can you, please, explain "The coral banded shrimp is a threat to what you currently have let alone the sexy shrimp/anemone shrimp."?

Coral banded shrimp, and this isn't a guarenteed answer as some will disagree based on their experience..

Other than mantis shrimp, CBS is fairly dangerous around other shrimp and sometimes even fish. CBS is VERY terrortoral.. just like fire shrimp but instead add huge fist of death on the fire shrimp...

More often than not they're model citizens.. but kinda like a crab.. cbs can be a threat depending on it's mood/food supply.. Shrimp especially are not welcome near it's terroritory.. and sexy shrimp are just mysis for them..

Blue coral banded shrimp are safer due to their small size.. but still a threat to a smaller degree..

CBS are also cleaner shrimp.. they'll pick parasites off other fish.. however one unlucky fish may get held onto a bit too good if you know what I mean..

I had problems with my skunk cleaners harassing my sexy and anemone shrimp in my pico, but I'm not sure the same would happen in a larger tank.

I also noticed that the dancing behavior of anemone shrimp varies quite a bit between the different species or possibly just individuals as I'm not sure of the species of the ones I had. I had some from different sources and they each seemed to have their own little routine. They were all a lot less visible and active than the Sexy shrimp for me though.

Exactly.

Yes, all anemone shrimp are peaceful. The coral banded shrimp, however, is not.
