Difference between Yuma and Florida ric?

What's the difference between the Yuma and Florida ricordias and how do you identify each. Have 1 green 1orange and 7 purple ricordia

Ricordia florida are more uniform in bubble tentacle size as compared to Yumas , which have large and small mix of bubbles.

The oral disc (the mouth) of yumas all have pseudotenticals (bubbles), where as florida do not.

...and florida look prettier

Think it depends how you look at it.

For those that favor uniformity of shape and look, Floridas will always be the pretty ones. For those who don't like every shade of green...Yumas are quite nice. :lmao:

Yes, yes. Florida's are available in other colors. Just that those green ones are everywhere. It isn't a frag tank down here without a bunch of "Green Ricordea's". :lmao:

I disagree and I rest my case:

Let them grow and they are not "uniform". Yumas are always nice and round. Floridas get multiple mouths and goofy shapes.

Price is hugely variable. I've seen florida's for as little as $5 to as high as $100 for a solid yellow (overpriced in my opinion).

Ditto for yumas. Some of the high dollar yumas are truly spectacular. Bought one once. It was smaller than a dime, not attached to the plug, dropped off and disappeared forever. Based on my limited experience with yumas, the higher the price, the more difficult to keep they are.

Yumas get larger and come in more colors also have bumps on the mouth. Rics max out in size about 2-3 in. and come in a lot of colors just not as many as yumas, and the mouth is always smooth.

I dont know if someone has answered this question yet but can yumas and ric's mix together or will they start to compete for survival? Also lookin for a good online vendor to buy multiple rics if anyone has suggestions.

The yuma I have will kill anything that gets near it. Chalices, war favia, elegance, zoas... you name it, nothing seems able to beat it. I would bet that putting it next to a florida would end that florida ric.

This time you bet wrong:D. I have seen many people keep Ricordea floridea and R. yuma in the same area, intermixed with no negative interactions. Again, I have no experiences with this myself- only observations of others. Anyone who has kept these two together have any contrary experiences?

Know all corals will compete with each other for space- same species or not, I believe your concern is the chemical warfare. As stated above, the two species really don't interact negatively, however they will try to shade each other ect. if too close.

Thanks i dont have either rics or yumas yet but from the sounds of it rics will be cheaper/easier to get in the efforts of making a garden

pictures can lie but I doubt this one is. It's from a commercial reef seller.

It should settle the proximity question
