Difference between Zoas and Palys?

i know this is a dumb question, what is the difference between the 2?

i do believe the difference is in how the 2 build their mats..
palys take up sand and rock to build their mat where zoas have a fleshy one.

stones=paly
no stones= zoas.

i also think palys are a little bigger.. but don't quote me on that
