Differences between Octopus NW vs. Recirc?

Sorry I have to start a new thread here, but as I'm getting ready to order an Octopus skimmer, I kinda need to know this info.

So is there a lot of opinion on the Recirc Needlewheel skimmers vs the standards? I see that the cheapest recirc is about $100 more than the NW-150 but the recirc is rated as having a lower capacity.

In the end, it comes down to the fact that I don't have the room in my sump to run the NW-200 so it's definitely between the NW-150 in the sump or running the Recirc 110 external to the sump.

But considering the price difference, I'd sure love to be able to get ahold of one of those NW-150s if it will work for my tank.

For the record, I'm running a 55G mixed reef. Currently I'm running a Coralife Superskimmer 65 and that's not getting it done. So I need the upgrade.

Advice would be appreciated.

Well, right. I've seen that before but it doesn't really answer the question. I'm trying to figure out why the Recirc 110 is rated at 120 gallons when the (much cheaper) NW 150 is rated at 150 gallons. I was under the impression that pretty much any recirc skimmer would outperform a non recirculating model.

That seems to be the general consencus, but I don't really believe it. But i'm in the minority. :)

I think the big draw is running your drain right into the skimmer and getting the 'raw' overflow water straight to the skimmer. This can be done also with the regular non-recir. skimmer and some fancy plumbing.

Personally, I would go with the bigger bodied non-recir. over a smaller bodied recirc. skimmer.

I've got the NW-200 and it skims really well. With all that said, i've never ran a recirc. NW skimmer so I can't make a direct comparison, but the logic doesn't make sense with me.
