Typically polyp size. Micros tend to be the size of a pencil eraser and acans are larger. This is not always true but IME a good way to recognize the diff. Best advice I can give you is read up on all micro and acan information you can and you will easily be able to tell. I am very good at IDing corals and have gotten many rare corals mis-labled at a LFS chain here in Ohio.
