Difficult/Rare Corals

Just curious:

What are the most rare corals? Ones that aren't seen very often in this hobby because of their rarity or difficulty to keep?

Have any of you guys had success with these?

As a class, many of the nonphotosynthetic corals are hard to keep. As to rarity, that probably relates to color morphs as much as species.

More broadly than corals, the problems with actually getting to successfully keep some of the "rare" organisms has a lot to do with their ability to withstand collection and shipping. The lucky few who get a good quality specimen may be all set, while others with perfect setups fail time after time for no fault of their own. Many anemones fall into this category, for example.

These are selling for $200 - $300 per polyp on Ebay. They claim they are a new, super rare color/morph. I have to say I have never seen them before, certainly not on Zoaid, but that's a bit ridiculous to pay that much.

...this is probably one of the best posts I've read. Very funny and creative

Those are not new. I bought a large colony of those a few years ago. Fragged out many times for a lot lot lot less. They are not that impressive in person. But with that being said I am taking advantage of the market for them right now.

someone local just sold a colony of them for 75 bucks, around 20 polyps. he did not know how much to charge he said. in this hobby things are worth what people are willing to pay.

I love the purple finger :)

We should be able to post the purple finger in all of the for sale items that are misrepresented.

Good lord. Well I guess the MN Vikings fans who also happen to be reefkeepers should keep the demand high for those :)
