Difficulty trying to clean used tank

I am having a very hard time trying to clean a used tank I got. It was a freshwater tank and has several stains inside (looks like algae deposits). Anyone have any reef friendly advice on how to get these stains out? It is on the inside of the tank and would definitely make the viewing less enjoyable.

Fill it with vinegar and water and let it sit for 24 hrs than clean it off.

Used it straight if you have to. I scrub calcified areas of glass with it on older tanks...worked great.

I have some white wine vinegar, seem safe enough?

That'll work. If the tank is glass you can scrape the algae off real easy with a single edge razor blade. It scrapes right off. If its acrylic I lay the tank on its side so the bad spot is down and lay a paper towel soaked in vinegar on it for few minutes to loosen it up.
