Digital Aquatics

Nick I saw somewhere $75 for some additional software. So the Lite comes with software to obivousely play. I don't like having all my "eggs" outlets on one strip "in one basket". you did answer my question though I can purchase a float switch and use it right away with the Apex Lite to run an ATO. $366 doesn't get you a PH probe though. Sorry talking out loud. thanks for the help so far.

I need to stop by and see one in action.

Yea and actually there is a free version of aquanotes that doesnt have all the bells and whistles but works with the older controllers just fine.

Logik, can you program the DA Lite via a computer or is that strictly for firmware updates? I can't find info on this except the fact that they are always improving things.

I don't believe that you could tell it when to turn the lights on or off for instance. The software is mainly used for firmware updates, you can also manipulate all the parameters of any module or port/probe. There's supposed to be a bunch of new software coming out soon for data logging and all sorts of other fun stuff, but they keep pushing back the release date... I'm tired of waiting, but I guess I shouldn't complain because it's all free.

At the bottom of the first post in this link there is a Zipfile. You can download the software and kinda check it out. It only takes a second. Obviously, you wont be able to see all the parameters because you wont have anything hooked up. You may have to join the forum to do this, but that only takes a minute too.

There's an Iphone app you could download too. I have no idea what it does, but it's free if you want to check it out.

I just noticed I've fallen behind on updating so there is probably more stuff... Who knows, maybe this time I'll be able to tell it when to turn my lights on and off. :)

Well Logik as cool as the Digital Aquatics controllers are, and the great pricing. They're pretty stand offish here on RC. I had trouble registering on their site. They really have no email address to contact for that kind of trouble. Sent them a few PMs here on RC and got a generic copy paste response like they didn't even read them. Said we do not support PMs here on RC. Members answer more questions than they do. I'm gonna wait a month and save me pennies to see whats new then.

Rick/Nick I would love to see your APEX in action if you have time sometime next week. Another question... is the power strip on the APEX metal or plastic?

Im available any time. Still no job..........

Pretty sure its plastic. It has 2 usb plugins so I think that has to be plastic around it.

Rick... I've let this subject die off a bit. Wanted to wait and get the impulse buy thoughts out of my head.

Apex Lite. I have a few tanks that will make up a system downstairs. This is where I would keep the Apex Lite unit and main module +pulse router is on the other side of the wall to connect. I would then run my 29 upstairs off of what module? (ATO float switches, PH, temp, maybe salinity) plus an EnergyBar 8. Do you have something similar setup?

What kind of cable am I looking at to connect the 29 upstairs to the system downstairs? could I make my own? or is it USB?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

ok Todd I give... whats that for?

I'm going to save and by the apex lite. Would like to know more about rick's setup.

Its just saying cant we all get along and say there all good. :)

I just have an ac jr and I'm happy with it other than aqua notes lite is no good.

The main unit would connect to the EB8 upstairs with a USB cable. There was a link a while back in the neptune forums where to buy custom lengths for it that were long(55foot+) . Google should get ya what you need.

A PM1 would allow you to monitor Ph, temp, and monitor 6 switches. You can connect the PM1 to the EB8's USB plug. If you want conductivity you would need a PM2 as well.

This thread is about debating the best buy for my needs. There are good price points on both products. I'm thankful for those who contributed useful information in the thread. If I wasn't setting up my main system this year downstairs. I would be getting the DA Lite short term and wait for newer products to come out. I believe the best choice for me now is Apex Lite in my situation.

I know most people on here were joking around in good nature. You're smiley comment just came out of the blue. I was looking for some more feed back and glad it didn't get derailed.

Thanks Rick for you explanation it confirmed my thought.

So the path can take the cable lose 30+ feet and provide the correct voltage for communication on the buss? That's what I was looking for feedback from those who have modules beyond 30 feet. I'm guessing staying away from parallel A/C wires for interference. Do people end up using those filters?

So you would have it going to the controllable power strip first then usb to a PM1 or 2 respectively?

Just taking notes... :D
