Digitate hydroids

Sounds like you must have a bunch of them.

I tried kalk paste but they seem to have survived that. On pieces of rock small enough to lift out I have been doing so and using a screwdriver to scrape them off at the base. I have tweezed a couple as well which seems to get them good.

Reading Melev's website he says he has these and so far no harm...so no foul in his mind. I am inclined to think that is the best course. Keep an eye on them and if they were to set up shop too close to a coral which was being irritated by them then take action with some tweezers.

I think the folks that really have it bad are the ones with the hydroids that grow in thick patches...now those can ruin a tank.

Good luck.

Thanks so much James. methinks I'll take out my affected rocks during my next water change and dig them out with a nail file coils and all in the old change water; between them and some Aiptasia I have going too, I'm going crazy....

Just a thought--don't fry me please--but I have majanos in my tank, and in addition to the usual methods (joe's juice, etc...)--if they are on a rock that can come out of the water, I take long fireplace-type Bic lighter and burn them--about 10-15 seconds per majano seems to do it. The rock in the area seems to recover within (visually, anyway) about 4-6 weeks, coraline regrows, etc... I limit t 15 or less per day so dead tissue doesn't cause problems in tank. Red scarlet hermits are there within hours feasting.
