I think I'm finally at maximum capacity of livestock for my tank...so what do I do now? The fun is in the chase i.e. looking for the livestock to add...finding the right specimens at the right size, etc...but now that I can't do that...the fun is gone from the hobby. So...in this situation...what can be done? A second tank? A bigger tank? A massive die off so that I have to start anew? What would you do?
Dilemma...

If there is no fun in maintaining your complete tank, perhaps this wasn’t the hobby for you in the first place?
Maybe. I've been keeping aquariums at home for over 20 years and I worked at a LFS for 14 of those years so you're probably right.

To me the answer is obvious...a second, bigger tank! Says the person with 2 tanks just waiting to be started and discussions for a custom build down the road (thank goodness hubby loves to support my hobbies and starts dreaming bigger than I do).

I'm itching for a bigger tank, the dilemma is the current tank is upstairs (second floor) in my home office and I'm wanting a 75 gallon which can't go up there. The main floor of the house is being completely renovated over the next two years so that option is out....which leaves the basement as the optimal place for it...but it's unfinished, always damp, and no one goes down there other than to do laundry so it wouldn't be enjoyed or taken care of if it were set up down there. Sigh...

Why can't the 75 go in your office? One of our two "itching for water" tanks is a 75. Hubby wants it in a little "nook" on our 2nd floor just outside of the master bedroom (I'm still trying to convince him I need a tank in the master)
No room. The largest tank that can go in there can only be 30 inches wide due to necessary office equipment.
How about taking advantage of the "œcomplete renovation" to plan in your next tank on the main floor? At least, that's what I would do! I know it's not the same as adding fish to an existing tank, but for me the planning/preparing and acquiring equipment would help keep me interested.
I love tanks that are incorporated into the architecture. I especially love peninsulas, which a 75 can work well for. When designing our house we planned in a 180 peninsula (later swapped out for a 230) which divides our kitchen from our family room. We were able to have the stand wrapped in a facade to match our cherry kitchen cabinets.

We have guinea pigs where we want to put the 75 gallon. So we are converting the 29 to scratch our itch for the time being.
I've been considering that as well. My wife has already given me the thumbs down on that idea...she is not an aquarium person and has never liked them (which is why my current tank is in my office...she has no say in what I do in there)...but I've got plenty of time to win her over before the renovations are done. The hard part will be figuring out just where a tank could go that wouldn't potentially damage the hardwood floor should (heaven forbid) a leak occur.

try something challenging. Some people may not realize it but if I remember 20-30 years ago you were a reefing god if you could keep xenia alive (correct me if I am wrong) try some Acros or some NPS like said above maybe an elegance or find something to do.
