Dimension of tank stands

Is the dimension of the top of a stand must be exactly the same as the foot print of the tank, or there should be a little space?

So, if the tank is 96X30, should the stand be exactly 96X30, or 96.5X30.5?

I prefer a little bigger. Gets the edge of the tank onto the flat part of the stand instead of being on the rounded edges.

What you want is direct vertical support from the tank to the floor, at the 4 corners at a minimum. The stand can be bigger as long as the supports are in the right place.

What sleepydoc said. It's more about the support than the actual size. I ended up doing just that and had the top a little larger, where I installed a piece of 2"x2" to hide the black bottom trim on the tank.
