Dimming Problems

I seem to have some problem with T5 Dimming on my eX. I have 2 4x80w Ati Powermodules with dimmable ballast and a EVG card in each one. I want to use 4 channels on the Profilux to give me more control.

On L1/2 & L3/4 everything dims up and down fine but doesn't turn off. It's just stays at the low level flickering.

On L5/6 everything works fine on the light if i have only 1 of the units connected. When i add the second one using a splitter they work for awhile then 2 of the bulbs on one unit or sometimes both will turn off even though they are not meant to. Most of the time when you unplug 1 of the lights the other one starts up properly but not always.

Running just the one works perfectly (well only on L5/6 and it can be either light) so i really don't know what's going on.

Please help Matthias.

Hi

Either you have not got the zero volt switching wired correctly OR it is a ballast issue

As there is NOT a 110V 80w 1-10v dimmable ballast made by a mainstream company that we know of so I would need to see the ballast type to determine what is being used here.

if a 110V to 220V converter is being used and the voltage is not stable it could create relay bounce and not shut the EVG card off.

Without seeing your wiring and also the ballast it will be impossible to determine this further.

Is there a EVG-AP card inside the powermodule?

Then the ballasts (EVGs) must be connected to this card (control line AND 110V-power supply).

If the brightness goes above 0% you should hear the relay on the EVG-AP switching - this shuts on/off the ballasts.

Are the EVG-AP cards wired correctly? How many cards are connected to one port of the ProfiLux?

Hi,

I have wired heaps of these units up no problem at all and as stated if i only use one fittting everything works fine on L5/6.

I'm running a 220v system as ny power is 220v.

There are 2 x 80w ballasts in each powermodule and each unit has a EVG-AP-2F. Ideallly i want to run one unit of L3/4 and one of L5/6 but as L1/2 and L3/4 are not shutting the unit off i was trying to run them both on L5/6 for now but can't due the problem on L5/6 (On L5/6 everything works fine on the light if i have only 1 of the units connected. When i add the second one using a splitter they work for awhile then 2 of the bulbs on one unit or sometimes both will turn off even though they are not meant to. Most of the time when you unplug 1 of the lights the other one starts up properly but not always.)

As each unit works flawlessly on L5/6 (by themselves) how can it be a wiring problem? The one thing that is different on these lights to my old ones is that they have only have a common ground for both ballasts. Could this be the problem? If so how come it works on L5/6 when using one fitting and still won't work on others?

Also i use to had a second profilux system that i sold off and i still have the old dimmable lights that i use to run on that system and they do the exact same things on this system. I had run these lights flawlessly for over a year on the old system. It does all the same problems as the ati lights do.

Sounds like the ground then, but Matthias is the only one that can work on this for you.

Have you got any other devise to plug into L5L6 that will reasure you its not the Profilux, which it is not as the problem would be on both channels not just one.

Hi Michael,

The old lights don't have a common ground though and they are still doing the same thing. Also i know of three other people running Ati with wiring the same as me and they don't have any problems.

It's got me stumped.

I have a GHL moonlight stick i can try.

try the moonstick, what is being plugged into the port is irrelevant as the functionality is the same PROVIDING the earthing is correct.

My guess is you have one ballast that is earth sensitive.

I will let Matthias take over from here as he is the light guru, but to reasure you there is not a chance it is the profilux, L ports either work or don't, everything you have said is an earth related issue, but as i say Matthias can help further but will need photos of everything in detail and wiring schematics.

if you email me I will forward your tech support request across

Hi Michael,

Yes i tried the moonlight and it is doing similar thing. Not coming on when it is meant to be etc. I have also tried running on the splitter with one of my lights. and at the moment L6 isn't working on either moonlight or my Ati or other unit.

The weirdest thing is the problem varies.

what software and firmware you running also please send me your data file so i can see the programming

What is the moonlight doing wrong on L6?

Hi Michael,

I was running 4.05 but now i'm on 4.04 with the same problems.

The moonlight is working at all on L4 or L6 at the moment. If i go into manual override and dim the channel up and down i get nothing. You can see on the light scenarios what the lights (be it T5 or moonlight) and they don't match up. One channel will be fine and tho other will be off.

Also at the moment L5 is working and dimming up and down but the lights that are on are usually channel 2 (L6).

It will be, setting or wiring related.

The ONLY ever time we had it be a ProfiLux issues was whan someone cross wired the 1-10V interface taking out the L port it was connected to :(
