ding dangs/hawaiian people eaters

I got a nice mini colony of these paly's but I am having trouble getting them to fully open. I have them under medium light and low flow but I have had them everywhere and can't figure out what they like... Any suggestions?

Water params are in check, all my other corals are happy

PEs can sometimes take up to a couple weeks to open in a new tank. Just make sure there are no pests on them. Plant them in med to low light with med flow and leave them.

I agree with Zoadude low to med light med flow and let them rest . I always start my zoa at the bottom under med - low light and let them rest there for a week .

I've had them for a couple months and they started off about the size of a 50 cent piece. Then they shrank down to a little bigger than the size of an eraser on a pencil but got a whole lot brighter.

Too much light then.

I had some shrink into nothing once....My heart still bleeds that I burned them up (had no idea why they were shrinking).. They were blond PE with a peach glow under atinics...I haven't seen anything like them since.

Might check em for pests and nuke that aptasia just incase it's irritating them.

That's similar to the condition mine were in towards the end. I can't be 100% sure it was lighting because I've had other pallys shrink up and eventually adapt and live in higher light. They've stayed small and really hug the rocks and don't really prosper.

I always wished I would have moved them out of the light though. Of course the ignoramus at the pet store said, "I hope you have some powerful lights" as I walked out the door. That was always kind of at the back of mind as I moved them up to save them

The one's I had were wild....so the cards were stacked against me from the get go.

Id dip them, give them a day or two under low to very low light. If they don't open. Move them mid to upper tier in the tank. I think they need more light by the way there acting. Almost like they don't care to open. I had some Dawn Of Time Palys I bought from Jendub and they started closing up like yours. I dipped them and eventually moved them 2/3 of the way up in my tank and they love it. Popped three babies already.

I've tried getting rid of that aiptasia three times and it always comes back. I find that with the joe's juice, the bigger they are, the easier they are to kill so I will try to get rid of that aiptasia (again!) next time I do a water change in about a week or so.

I moved these babies in higher light about a month after I got them and that's when they started to morph and go south. I'm pretty sure these are from the wild too. I wonder if they can go back to 50 cent piece size after they have shrank up, anyone know?

kkdoughboy- I was planning to leave them in low light for a week of two, then move them out if they are not happy. Got any pics of your dawn of times?

I never listen to people at the fish store, I feel like they are always trying to make me buy something.

Kevin from Aloha corals kept them in high light with metal halides.....i run a 6 bulb NEP and kept my hawaiian ding dangs in up high and their colors were better, very bright and vibrant

the store I bought thses from they were directly under the halides. My nitrates were high (about 20) that may have stressed them too.

when i had mine they enjoyed being directly under the halides with decent flow. i lost mine to a nasty pair of tangs

i think they need abit more light. what kind of lights do you have right now?

4x39w T5, it must be the nitrates then
