I use to have a UV plumbed under the stand, but it always got in the way and plumbing outside the stand was a no no. I removed it and put into storage. This past spring a I got an outbreak of Dino's. Lost 3 Acro colonies and I needed to do something before I lost more coral. I heard that if you weren't precise with the Dino X dose it could mess up the tank or that it didn't work outright and I didn't want to add any chemicals to the tank for the Dino so opted to use the UV instead.
Because the Dino would go into the water column during the night, I decided to hook up my UV temporarily to run during the night to combat the Dino. I had a canister filter that wasn't being used so I hooked the UV up to that and set it up next to the tank. The UV was set on a timer to run when the lights were out. The filter was pulling the water from the DT and the return was going into the filter sock. For the next two weeks I would blast the Dino with a turkey baster off the rocks right before lights out to get it into the water column, and replace the filter sock the next day. By the second week it was almost gone and by the third there was no trace of it. Once gone I broke down the UV canister set up and put it away. It's been 5 months now and no signs of Dino. This worked on the strain I had, but some of these strains are the spawn of Satan.
