Dinos

Well there is a first for everything.

Finally got around to setting up the new tank and after a few months, it's having a dino outbreak. I let it go for a couple of weeks, but they are spreading VERY quickly and starting to cover some of the leather corals.

Currently the dinos are covering about 25% of the rockwork exposed to light and the "floaters" are all over the surface.

Has anyone tried that Maracyn for these? I just ordered some and will be trying it out soon. Not looking to loose anything to dinos AND have the tank look like crap.

I'm not a fan of utilizing antibiotics. If you mess up, you nuke your tank.

Here's something I wrote about Dino's or Cyano.

Filter fluff which is thrown out EVERY morning will help capture the floaters. Additionally, after the lights have been all day the first day you attack the dino's, siphon out as many as possible.

Nuke in progress... I have about 150 gallons of water and I put 7 tablets in the tank last night. This morning the water was yellow! I'll try and manually remove any floaters when I get home tonight.

Guess I'll need a pretty good water change after all this.

Lighting will be off for 3 days. I figure I'll turn on the skimmer and other filters after 2 days.

Inwall, siphon out the dinos? That sounds like a lot of work! Is that to eliminate toxins or because otherwise you will not get them all?

I was hoping this would be.... easy and painless.

So far nothing seems affected. Except the dinos to a certain extent. And the water is green... And when I turned on the skimmer for a second, it looked like I had poured soap into the tank! Wow!

Here is an in-progress pic showing the green water to some extent and the dinos. Hopefully tomorrow this will look different!
