Dip gone bad

I found out I have a problem with zoanthid eating nudibranch.

I first saw them on the glass...

Then found them on my zoas...

So I decided to do a freshwater dip. I dipped them in fresh RO/DI water for 5 minutes. I dipped around 5 frags and 2 large rocks with polyps. All are doing well except for my most recent and nicest zoas...

They really did not come back out after the dip, this shot is from the day after the dip...

I come home today to find them like this...

Are they gone? Anything I can do to help them?

These were only in my tank for maybe 5 days but I had been eyeing them in a tank at the LFS for a few weeks.

On my dip I did not match pH, just went with straight up RO/DI at the same temp as the tank.

Thanks for any help/advice,

Martin

Isolate the frag. Most likely crabs are picking at them. If you have or can set up a qt tank, they will most likely recover.

Also, your frag looks like a paly. And palys dont do well in a dip for more than a 30seconds to a minute. So most likley they are doing this because of the dip time.

I don't have a QT which is partially what led me to this situation.

Anywho, you were correct, my crabs were eating it.

So I made a temporary QT by drilling holes in a small tupperware bowl, placing the frag in the bowl, and covering the top of the bowl with netting.

I guess it is wait and see now.

That should work. It will take some time for them to recover. But even if they dont make it, save the rock in your qt. They will re-grow even if there is only a little bit of tissue on the rock.

You may also try blowing a PH on them at least once a day to help clear the dead tissue off. I wouldn't think they get great flow in the poor mans QT! Love the pic. Nice zoas/platys hope they recover.

i agree they do need some sort of regular flow to get rid of the muccus they make when they are regenerating or healing... i would spray them with a power head daily...

uh oh, i just dipped my gorilal nipples for some nudis i tink, nothing came off but they are closed, they have been closed for a day or two before the dip also... last time i did a FWD it worked fine...
