I need to know what you all think!
If you dip brand what?
I ask on RC and it is 50/50 dip all new coral some sad no and others said yes it helps.
And 50/50 on QT corals also.
It started all because my zoo that was ok then didnot open up all the way any more.
That it may have something as pox.

Sea Chem Reef Dip or Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure on my future purchases. After the dip at least 2 months in quarantine will be my standard procedure.

Dipping with no quarantining really does little to prevent future problems. Dipping will kill the adult and larval stage of most of the nasties but does little on the eggs.

How and what type of QT do you have setup for that?

Dip water is set up in a bucket with a small powerhead and heater. In my case, Acropora, are left in the bucket for 15-20 minutes. The powerhead provides the current to blow off any dead or dying predators.

The quarantine tank is a 29 gallon with enough flow and light to maintain the coral for a couple of months. The corals are placed on egg crate for easy viewing. Water changes are done with water from the display tank.

The whole point to the extended quarantine is to make sure the life cycle has stopped. If after two month's no predators are seen the coral is placed in the display tank.

If you have a known predator already in the display tank it is critical to treat and quarantine all piece's that the predator is known to attack. By removing all trace's of the piece's from the display you will be starving the predators that were not attached.

So I get this right for coral only QT is
29 gal tank
light for coral
Filter system
8 weeks

You keep the QT for coral running 24/7 just for corals and have a seperate QT for the fish also?
If after two month's predators are seen on the coral in the QT tank then what do you do.
I read here about a brand called Lugol's Iodine did you ever have used that or did you see from members that use that any good?

I use a 29 because I have extra's laying around. Use whatever size will hold whats needs to be treated.

Lighting should be close to what is in the main tank. You want to limit the stress when put back in the main display.

Sponge filters will do a good job as long as the bio load is medium to light. Sponge filters come in all differant sizes and are cheap. You just need a air pump to use the sponge.

The time will depend on the problem.

I can't comment on fish. I don't keep any.

The time in quarintine is gonna depend on if you are able to get rid of the problem in a week, two weeks or 10 weeks. Some pests like flatworms and nudibranch's are killed quickly but their eggs if present will just start your problem all over again. You will need to keep the QT going as long as it takes it eliminate the pests. Once the eggs hatch you will be able to kill the young predators before they are able to breed again.

I haven't used Lugols in particular. TMPCC or Sea Chem Reef Dip is what I have used.

You bet!

Please let us know what your outcome is. If your curious as to what things might come off the coral after being dipped a good magnifying glass is indispensable. Drain the dip water through a coffee filter or anything very fine meshed then flip the filter over and pour water in the opposite direction over a clean container.

I forgot to ask is there anything in RC or web that shows corals and diseases and how to treat that?
