Dipping Lords

So first off I want to give a big thanks to All Delight, and I think he got his reco fro mchava. I had a Japanese Lord (of the very expensive variety) that was receding a bit. If untreated, it would have died probably within a month or two. It was still eating, but polyps weren't too happy.

Anyway, at All Delight recommended a TMPCC dip - very diluted - 1ml per 1,000 - for about an hour. I am impatient so I decided to go about 1ml per 400 - still half the reco on the box, and only kept it there for 15 minutes. I saw lots of critters scatter.

This morning, even though he lost some color - he's fatter than he's been in a week.

He's sitting right next to a BUNCH of other premium acans that are all doing fine, and I'm wondering if sometimes these guys just get some sort of "bug" or infection - that is killed off by TMPCC. I'm not sure what it is, but I will definitely be treating corals this way from now on. Probably not on arrival, but at the first sign of weakness. I remember a thread LONG ago by RandyO that talked about "polyp bailout" and I've experienced the same. I've had micros and lords for several years now, and seen colonies just die for no reason. Also when something hits them, like an alk spike, a cyano outbreak - they get p*ssed off, slowly fade away over the course of months. I wish I would have known this trick sooner!

FWIW. HTH!
