disapearing mushroom

today i found a green spotted mushroom rock with one of my larger ones cut in 2 and it looks as if one side has been chewed up by some critter.
anyone know what could have done this?
only fish i have is a perc, some red and blue hermits and some snails, and of course lots and lots of pods.
im stumped.

well i think i found the culprit or at least saw it.
after lights out i stayed up and watched the tank for about 30 to 40 min. (laugh here) and then i saw it , a red rock lobster, poke out of a hole in the rock and it bit off a piece of the mushroom.
D*mn hitchhiker.........it must have come with one of my rocks a long time ago and i never noticed it until i started seeing the mushrooms disapear after they had been growing so well.

i knew they were not reef safe but i didnt know to what extent .
lesson learned i guess.
anyways...... i removed the rock and baited the container with a piece of fish in hopes of getting him out.
if i have any luck i will be looking to give away if anyone wants it

i saw it again and it may be a pistol shrimp .
anyways no luck catching him yet.

could i do a fresh water dip? or will it harm my rock?
the rock has lots of starfish, some sponges ,a small piece of acan(unknown species) and about 30 mushrooms on it.
any advise is apreciated.......thanks .al

Check out the difference between a pistol and a mantis shrimp.. i'm not sure either would bother corals but my pistol stays on the ground and in his cave and doesn't bother anything.. mantis can start to prey on other critters in your tank.

Good luck with solving the mystery and saving your shrooms!

its deffinitly a pistol shrimp.
no luck catching it so far.
any ideas?............another shroom gone this morning :(

a pistol, really? mine is aok. never bothered a shroom ever. (tiger pistol)
I have two pepermint pistols as well in another tank. no probs.
