As a lot of you know I am upgrading my 55 to a 75 for my winter project.
I have totally taken my time with it. Built the stand, put in a 55 sump with PVC, new skimmer, new Calcium Reactor, dual phosban reactor- 1 running phosban- 1 running carbon, new MH lighting... the whole 9 yards. Started the first week in January.
I was looking forward to transferring all my corals (mushrooms, zoas, softies) and fish over in about two weeks. The 75 has been up and running for 2 weeks now and all I had to do was set up the canopy with my T5 fixture and the new MH's.
One little problem I had in my 55 was a Flatworm population that needed to be eradicated before the move.
I followed the directions closely on the Flatworm Exit. Ran Carbon afterwards, and even did a 10 gallon waterchange right afterwards.
At 9pm everything was okay other than the corals being a little tweaked because of the waterchange.
Came back down about an hour later to find 2 Chromis dead and the Hermit Crabs having a feast.
I started catching all my fish at this point and acclimated them to the 75. Ended up finishing disaster mode around 3am.
2 Clowns, 1 Chromis, firefish, Cardinal, and Kole Tang are in the 75 now.
Needless to say, this morning, my 75 is now populated with about 1/2 my corals and all of my fish except my Sixline Wrasse who I haven't caught yet.
Lost the 3rd Chromis this am in the 75.
All my other fish are doing okay so far though in the 75.
So instead of being able to go to the meeting tonight and getting to meet everyone who has been so helpful to me during my winter project, I will be instead modding my canopy on the 75 to avert further disaster.
Totally bummed out about the whole thing.
I hadn't had a reminder of "Disaster Happens Quickly" like this in about 4 years.
